Big Leeds Climate Conversation to be extended to 30 November

Leeds City Council is to extend the deadline for taking part in the Big Leeds Climate Conversation by an additional month, it has been announced. It was originally due to close on 31 October, but will now be extended until 30 November.

The extension will give residents a final opportunity to have their say on how the city should respond to the climate emergency.

University commits to bold climate crisis action

The University of Leeds has fully divested from significant fossil fuel extractors and has set out seven bold principles it will adopt to help tackle the climate crisis.

They commit to a 2030 net-zero carbon footprint target for the University and a drive to achieve no direct carbon emissions by 2050. Leeds Climate Commission is specifically referenced as a way the University will work with Leeds City Council to help deliver the city's 2030 net zero ambition.

Six weeks left to take part in the Big Leeds Climate Conversation

Residents are being urged to share their views on how the city should respond to the climate emergency before the Big Leeds Climate Conversation ends on October 31.

By taking part in the conversation - which is being conducted in partnership by Leeds City Council and Leeds Climate Commission - residents will help the council develop a citywide plan to become a carbon-neutral city.

Roads closed for World Car Free Day 2019

Roads in Otley, Headingley and Beeston Hill are to be closed to traffic on 22 September as part of celebrations for World Car Free Day.

Leeds will join cities from across the world including London and Paris taking part in this year's World Car Free Day next weekend to raise awareness of the environmental benefits of leaving the car at home.

Leeds citizens’ jury to tackle the emergency of climate change

A Citizens’ Jury has its first meeting tonight to discuss Leeds’ response to the climate emergency.

The jury of 25 has been put together by Leeds Climate Commission working with Shared Future CIC. The findings, in the form of a report written by the jurors, will also be presented to Leeds City Council’s Climate Emergency Advisory Committee,

Leeds Citizens' Jury selected to debate climate emergency

A Citizens’ Jury to discuss Leeds’ response to the climate emergency is being put together by Leeds Climate Commission working with Shared Future CIC.

Letters were sent by the Sortition Foundation to 4000 households across Leeds using random stratified sampling of addresses. Responses were received from 122 people. Twenty-five people have been selected to take part, based on a jury profile agreed by the Citizens’ Jury Oversight Panel. 

Recruitment process starts for Leeds Citizens’ Jury on Climate Change

Recruiting has started for the first Leeds Citizens’ Jury on Climate Change.

The process, which is being organised by Leeds Climate Commission, will recruit 25 local people to answer the question,  ‘What should Leeds do about the emergency of climate change?’

Proud of Leeds and want to help the city lead the way in taking action on climate change? Can you spare a little time to help us carry out The Leeds Big Climate Conversation?

We are looking for volunteers to be Leeds' first Climate Champions. These are people who are willing to help us in a variety of ways to help spread the Big Leeds Climate Conversation as widely as possible, throughout communities and neighbourhoods across the city, within their own organisations and groups, and at Leeds events throughout the summer.

Big Leeds Climate Conversation begins!

Leeds City Council and the Leeds Climate Commission have kicked off a three month consultation on climate change at a packed launch event held at the University of Leeds last night. The Big Leeds Climate Conversation aims to raise awareness of the need to tackle climate change, find out whether individuals are willing to take action, and explore what residents think about a number of bold ideas to cut emissions.
