Help us shape support for sustainability in Leeds schools and colleges
Leeds Climate Commission’s Schools group is asking all schools and colleges in Leeds to assist them in finding out how far climate and sustainability is embedded in curriculums and practices by taking part in a city-wide survey.
All schools and colleges in England are expected to have a Climate Action Plan and a named Sustainability Lead as part of the Department for Education’s Sustainability and Climate Change Strategy.
However, the status of the plans in individual schools is not known.
As the 2026/27 academic year unfolds, Leeds Climate Commission would like to understand how schools and colleges across Leeds are progressing towards this.
The survey also presents an opportunity to celebrate climate action work already taking place and to learn how schools and colleges can be supported in the next stage of their sustainability journey.
Crucially, the project aims to identify and offer support to schools and colleges that do not yet have a climate action plan or sustainability lead.
The online survey takes 10 minutes to do and is being launched today (4 November) via direct email to Leeds schools and colleges. Deadline for responses is 30 November.
Schools and colleges that complete the survey will be sent free resources from Global Learning Leeds. They will also be prompted to sign up to the Climate Ambassadors network, which offers a variety of resources and local support for schools and colleges across England.
