Home News Call for Leeds organisations to share views on heat usage for pilot study with BEIS

Leeds City Council is working with Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to be a pilot city of the government’s Heat Network Zoning project.

In the future, local councils like Leeds could be given powers to introduce ‘heat network zones’—specific areas within their district where it would be mandatory for certain types of building to connect to a local district heating network.

District heating can offer reliable, affordable, and low carbon heat and hot water to connected buildings. It can also help us to reduce demand on the electricity grid which will play an increasingly important role in the future given the shift to cleaner, greener electric vehicles and heating systems.

If your organisation either uses heat, creates heat, is involved in the heat network industry, or is interested in this pilot for any other reason then please visit the virtual engagement room (linked below) to find out more. The room includes lots more information covering the background and purpose of the project. It also highlights some of the potential benefits of engaging with Leeds City Council on the pilot.

The Council are now looking for organisations anywhere in Leeds who want to find out more about this policy to share their views and heat usage information by completing a short online survey which can be accessed via the virtual engagement room.
